MW4 DMZ access: purchase, Game Pass and getting started
Separate access to the game from a free in-game loadout.
MW4 is a separately purchased release at launch. Activision says it is not included with Game Pass until Holiday 2027. The earlier digital-preorder requirement concerned early access; check your platform entitlement and installation for the full release.
- Full release: October 23, 2026
- Game Pass launch access is not included
- Free Loadout is an in-game gear option
Check game ownership before troubleshooting a loadout. Access to MW4 DMZ and the Free Loadout option solve different problems: one lets you enter the game; the other helps you prepare gear once you are inside.
Purchase and Game Pass at launch
Activision’s October 15 announcement says MW4 launches as a separate purchase on October 23 and is not included with Game Pass until Holiday 2027. Access to an older Call of Duty through a subscription does not establish ownership of MW4.
The official editions page covers PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC stores and Nintendo Switch 2. Inspect the edition, platform and account you actually bought before purchasing anything again.
Early access versus the full release
Digital preorders gave early access to DMZ before the full-release date. That historical eligibility condition is different from a new requirement that every full-release player must preorder.
For edition bonuses, compare the Vault Edition guide rather than assuming an upgrade is necessary for basic DMZ access. This guide does not set a current store price; use your platform’s purchase page for regional pricing and availability.
If DMZ is not available in your launcher
| Check | What it helps establish |
|---|---|
| Account and library | You are signed into the platform account with the MW4 entitlement |
| Edition and platform | The purchase matches the device or store you are using |
| Pending downloads | Required game content and current updates have finished installing |
| PC requirements | Your setup meets the documented software and hardware requirements |
| Support status | Your issue matches a currently listed problem rather than an old workaround |
Use the PC requirements guide for that platform. If ownership or installation still fails, use the support links on the official editions page and provide the exact error and platform. Avoid another purchase until you understand which entitlement is missing.
After you can enter DMZ
Follow Breaking New Ground through the introduction, then use the first-hour checklist at the FOB. To recover from a failed deployment, use the Free Loadout guide; it does not replace rescuing an MIA Operator or checking your equipment.
