How to unlock MW4 Operators for DMZ

Find the Operator you want, see the exact requirement, and avoid grinding in the wrong mode.

In short

The 33 launch Operators include five available immediately, four earned through DMZ levels, eight through Campaign and five through Multiplayer challenges. Others are tied to preorders, Vault Edition or the Endowment pack. Ju Kwon's unlock requirement is still classified in the launch roster.

  • DMZ: Reece 4, Coffey 9, Simone 15, Hector 19
  • Eight Campaign mission unlocks
  • Five Multiplayer challenge unlocks
  • Unlocking an Operator does not add an Active Duty slot

Want Hector? Your target is DMZ Player Level 19. Want Park? Complete the Campaign mission Decapitation. Want Velikan? His challenge belongs to Multiplayer. Knowing the route saves more time than trying to make every match advance every unlock.

The Operator roster contains the individual profiles and portraits. Below, all 33 launch entries are grouped by the action that unlocks them. A classified requirement stays classified; there is no reason to chase an invented secret challenge.

Five Operators available immediately

You can begin with Min-Hee, CTSFO, Mil-Sim KSK Arctic, UCTF or Army SF Airborne. None has a level or challenge requirement in the launch roster.

The first five are immediate unlocks. Hunter Killer, shown in the same chart, has a separate preorder requirement.

Four Operators earned through DMZ levels

OperatorRequired DMZ Player Level
Reece4
Coffey9
Simone15
Hector19

These use the DMZ level track. Leveling a gun or earning account XP exclusively in Multiplayer does not meet a DMZ Player Level requirement. Simone shares Level 15 with an extra Active Duty slot, but the character unlock and capacity reward are separate entries.

Campaign reward Operators Cho, Dallas, Luca, Oh-Ji, Kal, Dunn, West and Park
Match the mission name to the Operator you want; the rewards are listed for DMZ use at full launch.

The Campaign reward list also includes XP tokens and cosmetics. The announcement specifies DMZ use at full launch on October 23. Completing the requirement earlier should not be confused with a promise that every reward is usable during DMZ early access.

Five Multiplayer challenge unlocks

OperatorMultiplayer requirement
BlackwellThree Operator kills without dying, ten times
Jae50 Operator hipfire kills
Velikan15 Operator double kills or better
Valen20 Operator longshot kills
Zimo50 Operator headshot kills

These are Multiplayer requirements. Fighting AI in Hajin is not a substitute for the listed mode and target. For Blackwell, ten separate qualifying streaks are required; 30 kills in total do not automatically meet the condition.

The first five have Multiplayer challenges. Kyle and Ju Kwon have different unlock routes.

Preorder, Vault Edition and pack Operators

The eight Vault Edition Operators
Vault Edition roster access is separate from the DMZ Deployment Bonus and its supplies.

Do not buy an edition expecting every character in the full roster to be included. Campaign and challenge unlocks have their own requirements. The Vault Edition guide explains the DMZ bonus separately.

Unlocking a character is only the first step

An unlocked Operator joins your choices; an Active Duty slot holds an Operator you are preparing to deploy. That Operator’s gear, Dog Tag progress and traits need their own attention.

Before replacing or resetting an established Operator, read the MIA and Operator management guide and Prestige comparison. A roster collection goal should not accidentally cost you the build you intended to keep.

Quick questions

Which Operators unlock by playing DMZ?

Reece at DMZ Player Level 4, Coffey at 9, Simone at 15 and Hector at 19. These are DMZ Player Level requirements, not weapon levels.

How do I unlock Ju Kwon?

The launch roster lists the requirement as classified. No challenge, code or mission requirement is established here.

Do Campaign Operators work in DMZ?

The Campaign reward announcement lists its Operator rewards for use in DMZ at full launch on October 23. Complete the associated Campaign mission to earn each one.

Does unlocking more Operators increase Active Duty capacity?

No. Roster unlocks and Active Duty slots are different. DMZ Level 15 grants an additional slot; simply unlocking another character does not.
