MW4 DMZ exfil guide: every way out of Hajin
Loot only counts once you are out. Here is how each exfil works and how to make it home with your gear.
Pre-launch guide. Written from official info released before early access. We update it as the game goes live.
DMZ has three ways out: the Twin Heli Exfil at a green-smoke site, a loud flare exfil, and the Fulton balloon. Active exfil sites are picked from a pool each match, so check your map instead of memorising spots. Call the exfil, hold the area until the ride arrives, and board.
- Helicopter exfils are marked with green smoke
- Active sites are chosen from a pool every match
- A flare exfil is loud and visible from far away
- You keep your XP even if the exfil fails
Nothing you find in Hajin is yours until you exfil. This guide covers every way out and how to leave without losing your bag at the last second.
The three ways out
| Method | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Twin Heli Exfil | Find an active site marked with green smoke, call the helicopter, hold the area until it lands, then board. | The standard way out for a full squad |
| Flare exfil | Fire a flare to signal your ride. The signal is loud and visible from far away. | When you can defend your spot |
| Fulton balloon | A balloon extraction. Official text calls these “skyhooks”. | Getting out without a helicopter site |
The Exfils service page lists where you call the helicopter and extract.
Watch the radiation storm
Radiation spreads across Hajin during every deployment. The Time Remaining on your HUD shows when the radiation storm will intensify. As it worsens, areas become too hostile to survive, and exfils there stop working. Plan to be out before the timer runs down.
Exfil sites change every match
The active exfil sites are picked from a pool when the match starts. Don’t plan a route around one remembered spot. Check the Tac Map early and pick the nearest active site with good cover.
The hold: the most dangerous minute
Calling a helicopter doesn’t take you out right away. You have to hold the area until it lands. That is when rival squads and AI reinforcements find you.
- Clear the area before you call. Fewer surprises during the wait.
- Watch your threat level. A noisy fight on the way can bring stronger reinforcements to your exfil (see Threat escalation).
- Carrying a Lieutenant’s case? The Lieutenant Dog Tag Case broadcasts your position to everyone on the Tac Map until you exfil with it. Expect company. More in the boss guide.
- Exfil sites are ambush spots. Other squads know where they are too.
- Got a big bounty? Wanted players are marked for nearby enemies. See the bounty guide.
Before you leave: a checklist
- Best items in Secure Slots. If the exfil goes wrong, Secure Slots keep their contents.
- Mission items are safe in their own slot. Story and Dynamic Op items go into the Mission Item slot and don’t take backpack room.
- Heal before you call. Use a Medkit to fix a wound so your Tourniquet is ready again.
- Know your Orders. Some need a successful exfil to count. The Counterfeit Order Robbery asks you to extract with at least 5,000 in backpack and loadout value.
Traits that help you get out
- Die Hard (Survivalist): reach an exfil while in Last Stand and it calls automatically. You also get unlimited bleed-out time in Last Stand.
- Impact Smokes (Survivalist): you release smoke when downed, which covers a revive at the landing zone.
- Faster Revive (Survivalist): quicker revives when a squadmate drops during the hold.
Plan these in the skill tree planner.
After the exfil
You get an After Action Report after every deployment, even a failed one. It lists your recovered loot, ingredients, rare items and DMZ Cash, rates the run from F to S++, and shows the XP you earned. Cash goes to your Bank. Loot goes to your Stash.
Quick questions
Are DMZ exfil locations the same every match?
No. The active exfil sites are picked from a larger pool each match, so check the Tac Map when you deploy.
What happens to my loot if I don't exfil?
Unsecured gear is lost and your Operator goes MIA. Items in Secure Slots survive, and you keep the XP from the run.
Is there a trait that helps with exfil?
Yes. Die Hard (Survivalist tree) calls the exfil automatically if you reach it while in Last Stand, and gives you unlimited bleed-out time in Last Stand.
