MW4 DMZ 3D Printer guide: resources, ingredients and recipes

Turn loot into gear: what the 3D Printer needs, how recipes unlock, and what each known recipe costs.

Pre-launch guide. Written from official info released before early access. We update it as the game goes live.

In short

The 3D Printer opens at DMZ Level 2 and crafts gear from two kinds of material: four basic resources (Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals and Metals) that loot breaks into automatically, and rarer ingredients that stay as items. Recipes unlock through DMZ levels and Orders, or are found in Hajin and must be extracted. All FOB upgrades are printed here too.

  • Unlocks at DMZ Level 2
  • 4 resources + rarer ingredients
  • Over 100 printable items
  • Extracting a Recipe item also pays 5,000 DMZ Cash

The 3D Printer is the crafting station in your FOB. It opens at DMZ Level 2 and turns what you loot into gear: armor, backpacks, healing, tacticals and the FOB’s permanent upgrades.

Two kinds of material

1. Resources: the common stuff

Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals and Metals. Normal loot breaks down into these automatically when you pick it up. They are common all over Hajin.

2. Ingredients: the rare parts

Ingredients stay as items in your backpack and Stash. They are rarer, depending on their rarity, and found in specific areas. The printer’s Recipe menu suggests where to look.

Alloyed Plating, Control Units and Detonators are ingredients too. Their rarity isn’t confirmed yet.

How recipes unlock

  • DMZ Player Level: your first recipes unlock at Level 2 with the printer.
  • DMZ Orders: some Order pages reward a recipe. The Counterfeit page with Hostile Force pays a Recon Drone Recipe.
  • Found in Hajin: a Recipe item unlocks its recipe when you extract with it, and pays 5,000 DMZ Cash. The physical Recipe is used up.

Pin a recipe to track its ingredients: tracked items show a pin icon when you loot them (Resource and Recipe tracking).

Reactive Metals turn up in industrial areas and toolboxes. Nylon Laminate is found in military holdings and high-class civilian locations.

FOB upgrades are printed here

Every permanent FOB upgrade is bought from the printer’s upgrade menu, paid with DMZ Cash, ingredients and valuables, so don’t sell every valuable you find. Most upgrades take several prints to finish. The upgrades include more Stash space, a bigger Bank, cheaper MIA rescues, a Gunsmith discount, better Vendor offers and more. One tier of the Stash Item Upgrade costs 10 Electronic Sensors and 10 Rigid Synthetics, and adds 18 item slots.

What the printer can’t make (and what it can)

  • No weapons. Primary, Secondary and Melee weapons come from the Gunsmith, the Vendor or loot.
  • Ingredients, once upgraded. An upgraded printer makes Uncommon and Epic components like Rigid Synthetics and Alloyed Plating.
  • Killstreaks. Fire Support is printable. Infinity Ward mentioned the Argonaut, a new take on the Juggernaut that is very hard to craft.

Traits for crafters

  • Field Crafting (Scout): craft from Common printer resources while deployed.
  • Hostile Looter (Scout): hostiles sometimes drop Uncommon ingredients, rarely Rare ones.
  • Combat Scavenger (Scout or Warfighter): a small chance of an ingredient or valuable from kills.

The Stash is shared, so a loot-focused Operator can craft for your main one. Use our 3D Printer planner to total the cost of a shopping list.

Quick questions

At DMZ Player Level 2.

Can you craft weapons at the 3D Printer?

Weapons are not in the printer's categories. Weapons come from the Gunsmith, the Vendor and loot.

How do I unlock more recipes?

Level up your DMZ Player Level, complete DMZ Orders, or find a Recipe item in Hajin and exfil with it. Extracting a Recipe also pays 5,000 DMZ Cash.
