MW4 DMZ health and healing: wounds, the Tourniquet and every heal

Going down isn't the end, but each time costs you. How wounds work, and which heal fixes what.

Pre-launch guide. Written from official info released before early access. We update it as the game goes live.

In short

In DMZ you have 150 health. When you go down, the Tourniquet gets you back up at 100 health by giving up 50 max health, and you are then wounded. Only a Medkit repairs the wound and makes the Tourniquet usable again. Bandages, Stims and Pain Killers just bring you back to 150 for a while.

  • 150 health, 100 while wounded
  • Tourniquet: get up again, lose 50 max health
  • Only a Medkit repairs a wound
  • Self-Revive Kit is separate and printable

DMZ doesn’t just kill you when your health hits zero. You get second chances, but each one costs something. Knowing which heal fixes what is the difference between exfiling and going MIA.

The basics

  • You have 150 health.
  • When you go down, you can use the Tourniquet. Every Operator deploys with it.
  • The Tourniquet gives up 50 max health to get you back up at 100. You are now wounded.
  • While wounded, you can’t Tourniquet again until the wound is repaired.

Details: Tourniquet recovery.

Which heal does what

ItemRepairs the wound?Resets the Tourniquet? What it does
MedkitYesYesFull repair back to 150. The only real fix.
BandageNoNoBack to 150 max health for a while
StimNoNoBack to 150 for a while; also refills and extends stamina
Pain KillersNoNoMax health, less damage effects and faster regen for a minute
Self-Revive Kit––Its own slot: revive yourself. Can be looted or printed.

Important: while temporary health from a Bandage, Stim or Pain Killers is active, you can’t Tourniquet if you go down again. Carry at least one Medkit on any serious run.

Stamina

Tactical Sprint is on by default in DMZ. Sprinting burns stamina until you drop to a normal sprint. These refill and extend it:

  • Energy Drink: infinite stamina for a while (Common, printable for 10 Chemicals and 10 Metals)
  • Stim
  • Smelling Salts: in official footage, infinite stamina plus faster reloads and movement for a short time

See DMZ damage and movement tuning.

Hiding from detection

The Sedative Inhaler makes you immune to all radar, marking systems and thermal for 60 seconds. That’s useful when you’re Wanted. See the bounty guide.

Radiation

The Haneul Nuclear Reactor sits under radioactive vapor. You need:

Armor is health too

Plates soak damage before your health does. Refill them at Ammo & Armor Caches. See the armor and backpacks guide.

Quick questions

What is the Tourniquet in DMZ?

An ability every Operator deploys with. When you are downed, it lets you get back up at 100 health by giving up 50 max health. You are then wounded until you use a Medkit.

Does a Bandage fix a wound in DMZ?

No. A Bandage only restores your max health to 150 for a while. Only a Medkit repairs the wound and makes the Tourniquet available again.

How do I survive radiation in DMZ?

Wear Radiation Gear and a Gas Mask. Together they let you enter the Haneul Nuclear Reactor. Radiation Blockers are a Rare consumable.
