MW4 DMZ camo guide: from your first unlock to Helio
Choose the right challenge before you deploy. Here is the path through weapon camos and the three DMZ mastery rewards.
Jump to a section
Start with a weapon's eight Military camos and three Special camos, then work through Gold, Platinum, Harmonic Break and Divergence. DMZ mastery follows in order: Chiral, Ripple Tide, then Helio. A challenge's prerequisite matters as much as its kill requirement.
- 8 Military and 3 Special camos per weapon
- Gold: 100 eliminations in one DMZ match after prerequisites
- Divergence requires 33 Harmonic Break challenges
- DMZ mastery: Chiral → Ripple Tide → Helio
Before you spend a deployment farming kills, open the weapon’s camo challenge. Check what unlocks it, which enemies count and whether the progress must happen in one match. Those three details decide what you should bring and when you should leave.
The camo reference holds the challenge data and images. This guide turns it into a plan: finish one weapon’s requirements, expand across its class, then tackle the roster-wide gates.
Start with Military and Special camos
Military camos unlock at weapon-level milestones. The Han 86, for example, has eight at levels 10, 18, 25, 34, 42, 50, 57 and 65. These are weapon levels, not your DMZ Player Level. Other weapons have their own milestones.
Special camos add three challenges per weapon. Once unlocked, they join a shared camo pool. Their tasks can change how you build the gun: a silencer challenge needs a silencer, while an Akimbo challenge requires that configuration.
| Weapon and camo | Weapon level | DMZ objective |
|---|---|---|
| Han 86 — Smoke | 25 | 75 mounted kills; check the tracker’s target wording |
| Han 86 — Stormwave | 46 | 125 enemy kills with a silencer |
| Han 86 — Red | 72 | Kill three enemies without taking damage, 50 times |
| Sang 9mm — Autumn | 13 | 75 enemy kills while aiming down sights |
| Sang 9mm — Snakeskin | 25 | Kill three enemies without taking damage, 15 times |
| Sang 9mm — Space Time | 38 | 125 enemy kills using Akimbo |
The Smoke example has mixed target wording in the launch material: it uses a generic player-kill description while the DMZ section allows non-player targets. Check that challenge’s in-game counter before committing a full run to it.
For the no-damage tasks, plan around short, controlled engagements. A large total kill count does not replace the required sequences of three. For Stormwave, check your fitted attachment before deploying; owning a silencer is different from equipping it.
Gold, Platinum, Harmonic Break and Divergence
| Stage | What comes first | What you do next |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | All eight Military and all three Special camos on the weapon | Get 100 eliminations in one DMZ match |
| Platinum | Gold across that weapon’s class | Complete the weapon’s Platinum challenge; the Han 86 example is 100 enemy headshots after eight Gold weapons |
| Harmonic Break | Platinum challenges completed on 33 weapons | Complete the weapon’s challenge; the Han 86 example is 50 enemy double kills |
| Divergence | 33 Harmonic Break challenges completed | Opens the first mode mastery challenge |
The Han 86 examples are not a universal task list for every gun. In particular, do not apply its eight-weapon class requirement to a smaller weapon class. Use the arsenal to pick your next weapon and check that weapon’s own challenge.
For Gold, set up a run specifically for the single-match requirement. Bring a loadout you can sustain, identify ammo and armor support, and avoid adding an unrelated high-risk objective. That is a preparation recommendation, not a claim that one route is the fastest XP farm.
The three DMZ mastery challenges
| Camo | Prerequisite | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Chiral | Divergence | 2,500 kills against Tier 3 or higher enemies |
| Ripple Tide | Chiral | Extract two Lieutenant dog tags in the same deployment, 50 times |
| Helio | Ripple Tide | 25,000 kills using Legendary Weapons on a Max Level Operator |
For Chiral, enemy tier matters. Low-tier enemies do not meet the listed condition. Review the enemy threat guide before choosing an area.
For Ripple Tide, the unit of progress is a qualifying deployment: two Lieutenant tags and a successful extraction together. Fifty qualifying deployments require at least 100 extracted Lieutenant tags, but 100 tags spread over single-tag runs would not meet that wording. Plan the hunt with the Boss Board guide and choose an exfil method before starting the second fight.
For Helio, both the weapon rarity and Operator condition matter. The published wording does not define the numeric Max Level Operator requirement or whether the tracker is weapon-specific. Do not substitute DMZ Player Level 70 for the Operator requirement without checking the challenge menu.
Check these before your next camo run
- Open the exact weapon and confirm the challenge is available.
- Fit required attachments and check weapon rarity where relevant.
- Identify the required target type: enemy, higher-tier enemy or Lieutenant.
- Note whether progress requires one match, no damage or extraction.
- Check the counter after a short attempt before repeating the same method.
If you are considering a weapon reset while working on camos, read the Prestige comparison first. Weapon Prestige retains cosmetics, but it changes attachment access on that weapon.

Quick questions
Do AI enemies count toward DMZ camos?
DMZ camo challenges allow non-player targets, but follow the exact challenge text. Enemy tier, equipment, damage taken and extraction requirements still apply.
Can I complete DMZ Gold over several matches?
The listed Gold challenge requires 100 eliminations in one DMZ match, after completing that weapon's Military and Special camos.
Are Pyroclast camos part of DMZ mastery?
No. Pyroclast rewards belong to Weapon Prestige. Chiral, Ripple Tide and Helio are the DMZ mode mastery sequence.
