DMZ Scavenger boss guide: locating, fighting and exfil

Follow the current Scavenger marker · Reported encounters vary by area · Reserve space for the Dog Tag

In short

Use current intel to find the Scavenger, fight from cover and extract his Dog Tag. Encounters have been reported at Cheongun Village, South Island and Hajin River Heights. Those are search leads, not three guaranteed spawns to visit in order.

October 29: current reward and fix status

The October 29 patch fixes Scavenger detecting players immediately upon deployment. Do not treat that old behavior as a deliberate spawn trigger or a required part of the hunt. Continue using the current encounter and intel instead of assuming the target always acquires you at infil.

MW4 DMZ October 29 update: Cash rewards and objective fixes

Locate the active target

Inspect the Scavenger card at the Boss Board and buy eligible intel for the deployment if you want a chosen hunt. A Lieutenant Hunt Tower identifies the nearest Lieutenant; it does not promise the Scavenger specifically.

Follow the named marker and confirm the Lieutenant banner. Do not spend the entire run waiting at corpses because a guide for the older DMZ described that trigger. A repeatable current-game trigger or waiting timer is not verified here.

Prepare for a covered gunfight

Bring a rifle you can control at the encounter distance, enough ammunition, plates and healing. A suitable optic can help identify the target through poor visibility, but no particular attachment is required by the hunt. Reserve Backpack space for the tag before the fight.

The South Island report describes a car park between apartment buildings. Building corners offer a better reload position than standing between the vans. Check your actual surroundings: the live encounter may be in another area, and vehicles are not a universal safe position.

Paid Intel: Kill the Scavenger during a South Korean Wilderness road encounter. Other reported areas are not fixed spawns.

Clear your angle, then engage

  1. Identify nearby guards and a retreat route before exposing yourself.
  2. Fire from cover and break line of sight to reload or replace plates.
  3. Change angle if vehicles or walls block the target; do not rush across the open just to reach the body sooner.
  4. Confirm the named Scavenger elimination or completed hunt before starting the search.

A squad can cover separate approaches while one player moves. Solo, keep a short route back into cover and leave if another threat makes the fight unaffordable. These are planning recommendations, not a guaranteed fight script.

Inspect the loot and extract

The reported body loot includes the Scavenger’s Dog Tag and an ORIS 8.6; cache findings vary. Read every item card. A particular weapon or ingredient from one run is not a guaranteed reward, and a dropped gun is different from its Manual unlock.

Taking a Lieutenant’s case broadcasts your location to other Operators. Stop optional looting once you have the item you came for, choose an available exfil and check Boss Board progress after extracting. A kill banner, carrying the tag and successfully banking it are different checkpoints.

Quick questions

Does waiting beside dead players guarantee his spawn?

A required corpse type, waiting time and repeatable spawn procedure are not established here. Use current Lieutenant intel or a Hunt Tower instead of relying on a legacy-game trick.

Is the ORIS 8.6 guaranteed?

An ORIS 8.6 has been reported at a defeated Scavenger. That does not establish a guaranteed weapon, rarity or identical cache contents on every hunt.
